kilns

After 12 years of hard service, the small cross draught kiln is on the point of collapse and has been replaced with a larger, and I hope, more efficient version of the same kiln.

With the extra volume (approx 90 cu ft) I am anticipating a firing schedule of over 30 hours. For the first few firings they will be reduction firings, so we will see how things go before introducing any salt. In the past two years I have been extending the soak at the end to make sure the ash has melted into the surface, I will continue to extend the soak, and hope to get the extra qualities I am looking for.
